Event description
The Rev. Peyton’s Big Damn Band bridges genres and eras with an intensity and effortlessness few contemporary artists possess

About this Event

This is a damn big trio! Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band delivers thick, bass-heavy, blues-based guitar figures and growling vocals accompanied by muscular but minimal drumming and the metallic percussive scratch of a washboard. Known as the biggest little band, this trio blends blues, ragtime, folk, country and other traditional styles with the sleek modern energy of do-it-yourself, homespun, punk-fueled rock.

With all the power of a freight train, the Big Damn Band is known for Rev. Peyton's guitar pyrotechnics. He is joined by his wife, “Washboard” Breezy Peyton playing with all the nuance and percussive power of a New Orleans drum line, and Max Senteney on a lean drum kit including a 5 gallon maple syrup bucket. Together they play Peyton’s wildman country blues that’s as much ZZ Top as it is Bukka White.

Tonight's opener is JD Wilkes, founder of the Legendary Shack Shakers, whose fans include include Stephen King, Robert Plant and former Dead Kennedys frontman Jello Biafra. His southern surrealist lyrics and banjo accompaniment dusts off the old-time mountain tradition and rockets it into a new world.
