Event description

Description

Join us for the first organizational meeting of the Reinvestment Alliance of Central New York. Over the last several months, we have been astonished at the state of our country, and frustrated with the lack of opportunities to do anything about it. We created a committe to address this, and been working to formalize a new approach to advocating for change: divestment/ reinvestment, shareowner advocacy, and corporate enagement.

Over the last two months we have developed the Reinvestment Alliance of Central New York. This mission of this alliance is to leverage the financial resources of our community to effect change. The approach allows us to advocate for the causes we care about the most, such as renewable energy and environmental sustainability initiatives, fair and equitable compensation and benefits for workers, advancement of gender and racial equality, a commitment to product safety, pursuit of diversity and inclusion, zero tolerance of workplace or employment bias or harassment, and reform of corporate governance and executive pay structures.

To put these thoughts into action, we are planning to launch a community divestment/ reinvestment campaign, Reinvest CNY!, with a goal of $5 million reinvested into socially beneficial companies and organizations.

The tagline of the Reinvest CNY! is, “Divest + Reinvest + Engage = Empower”, and we think that statement is very powerful. This campaign will be the first of its kind in the country. It will send a message to harmful companies that we will not invest our money with them. Even more importantly, this campaign will allow us to advocate for the causes that we care about the most. We will be empowered to influence the decisions of corporations all around the world. The impact will be tremendous, and we look forward to telling you more about it.

Agenda items include:

- An overview of divestment/ reinvestment: what it means, how it works, and how it allows us to advocate for change

- Corporate enagement and shareholder advocacy: what they are and how they can be used as tools for change

- The Reinvest CNY! campaign: how it will work, what the structure will be, and how you can be a part of it

- The Reinvest CNY! launch event: date and venue ideas, opportunties for partners to be represented
