ABOUT THE ARTIST

THE REGULATORS were birthed from the rhythm-section belly of longtime Chicago outfit The Model Citizens Big Band, which has held a monthly residency for 25 years.

Among countless bands with whom the trio has performed, drummer Gerald Dowd has spent the new millennium playing behind alt-country mastermind Robbie Fulks, while guitarist Mike Allemana and bassist Matt Ferguson were band members of legendary Chicago jazz saxophonist Von Freeman for over a decade.

THE REGULATORS’ heavily improvised music combines jazz, rock, funk and traditional music from around the globe, drawing inspiration equally from free jazz, The Meters, Steve Coleman’s Five Elements and non-Western “rhythmic modes”, creating a groove that is complex yet danceable, even if you don’t know exactly where the 1 is.
