Event description

Description

A two day deep dive into facilitating groups and teams, to renew skills, refine your style and to learn alongside fellow experienced peers, in the vibrant artistic environment of Islington Mill.

  • Rigorously refine your working practice.

  • Expect to challenge habits, discover strengths, reveal blind spots, experiment with creative alternatives.

  • Let go, to make space to learn afresh.

The Refinery was designed in 2016 by Rivca in response to a gap in opportunities available for experienced practitioners to hone and advance existing practice. Rivca Rubin and Emma Haughton co-developed and delivered The Refinery in 2018 with superb results.

What have previous participants got from this?

“A very immersive and challenging group experience that was responsive to what everyone wanted and stretched me in all the right ways.” Participant, The Refinery.

“The learning impact goes way beyond facilitation skills and strategies.” Charlotte Semlyen, Coach & Facilitator

“I didn’t realise how much I needed this course until I got there. I’ve learned so much from Emma and Rivca, from the other participants, and from my own work and experience. Beautiful modelling of facilitation skills. Supportive challenge. Time for everything to be covered." Participant, The Refinery 2018.

“Wow! What a super mix of being carefully held, structured with challenging ways of thinking and lessons I can take into my practice. Thank you !” Mike Porteous. ZigZagAlive

“A really valuable space in which to work with a group of experts on specific issues. A hot house of expertise.” Mary Oliver, Dean of Media and Performance

How Does It Work?

Before: In order for you to get the most from this experience, we will ask you to bring live questions and experiences. It is therefore important that you are actively working with groups and teams. The focus is on developing and refining who you are and how you are in your work, not just adding new tools. Before arriving in Manchester we’ll invite you to engage with some prompts and questions to focus and prepare your thinking.

During: You bring questions, challenges, case studies, areas of your practice you’re keen to stretch and grow. Emma and Rivca will curate and support a responsive and rigorous peer group process including testing tools and approaches to resolutions of issues and challenges, experimenting with and practising new and different techniques, methodologies and communication styles. The programme is designed to stretch and invite you to engage in that stretch: experiential, theoretical, somatic and cognitive.

We will provide handouts to accompany the course.

After: Being part of an alumni of the course, formally or informally this can offer a resource for continued learning, tips and support, accountability and fresh thinking.

Numbers are limited to a maximum of 20
