ABOUT THE FILM: For the Miami Heat Wheels wheelchair basketball team, Miami is a city of opportunity, second chances, and a call to win - against all odds. THE REBOUND follows the underdog journey of the Miami Heat Wheels wheelchair basketball team in their quest for a national title — often unsure if they'll have what it takes to make it to the next step.
After a disappointing season-ending loss during the national tournament the year before, the Heat Wheels are ready for their second shot at the National Championship, but lack of funds and personal problems threaten to put an end to the dream before the season reaches its tension-riddled conclusion.
Three adaptive athletes motivate themselves as their team rallies through the season while confronting obstacles on and off the court. The story is a visceral portrait of the thriving human spirit and the athletes’ journey to realize their dreams while embracing some of life’s biggest challenges. With each milestone, the players, and their team, get closer to the idea that anything is possible— and it’s all about how you rebound.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING: “Shaina Allen’s engrossing, groundbreaking and ultimately inspiring documentary debut focuses on the unique camaraderie forged between men who find hope, comfort and an exhilarating sense of purpose playing a sport in which their powerful, well trained bodies are not considered to be lacking in anything.” - Andres Castillo, Miami Int’l Film Festival
“The secret weapon of The Rebound – the reason why this movie affects you so deeply, even if you don’t care about sports – lies within the personal stories of the players. @ReneMiamiHerald, Film Critic
