Event Details

The Prop Styling Experience is a creative workshop like no other for not only aspiring stylists, but experienced stylists seeking a portfolio update, photographers, makers, brands and social media strategists too.

Spend two full days learning, styling and shooting a still life photo shoot. This one-on-one prop styling intensive is designed specifically for you, based on your interests, goals and your level of expertise. By having an initial conversation (via Skype or phone) and filling out a detailed questionnaire, I design a custom program that suits your individual needs. After you book your session I will research your website photography, your brand and your social media presence to determine what skills you need support with. If you are new to styling, we will start at the very beginning.

I will share my tricks of the trade gathered over 20 years in the business and give you some solid career direction so by the time you leave you will be ready to take on the world and plan your next shoot.

Day 1 program covers: The Principles of Styling: Creativity and Technique
Day 2 program covers: The Principles of Styling: Creativity and Technique and The Business of Styling: Getting Started and Working in the Field.

If the offered dates do not work for you I can set up another date that suits your schedule.

There are 3 instruction level options available:
The Prop Styling Experience Square One: For aspiring stylists entering the field seeking to learn the basics of the photo shoot environment in the areas of creative, technique, planning and logistics. We start the day by looking at inspiration and stylistic elements that contribute to great images. You will then decide on a direction and theme for your photo shoot and we'll discuss the process. You will choose items from my vast prop and supply collection and let the creative ideas flow. Bring your DSLR or iphone. No official photography experience is necessary.

The Prop Styling Experience Level Two & Website Reboot: For experienced stylists and photographers and makers of products looking to switch gears or expand their reach into new areas. Together we focus on what you've accomplished and where you want to go with your career. We'll map out a strategy for change, and shoot some new portfolio-ready images. This is especially good for wedding stylists looking to enter into the commercial space or makers needing new website imagery of their products.

The Prop Styling Experience Corporate/Business: For those sent by their company to learn styling techniques to enhance their performance at work in a specific commercial niche. Includes all of the above as needed. This is especially good for those in publishing, social media and branding. Two from one company may attend together.

The session fee will include a photo shoot, a styling resource guide, a styling kit guide, a portfolio review (if applicable), a journal, materials* (see below) and lunch. A one hour follow up by phone or Skype to review your progress is included. You can bring a friend or a colleague with you for an additional fee. A two or three day option is available as well to cover multiple disciplines. Two day workshop takes place on Tuesday and Wednesday. If the offered dates do not work for you I can set up another date that suits your schedule. Please contact me prior to signing up with questions.
