Event description

Description

The vision of Super Stars Literacy (SSL) is for every child to possess the necessary reading and social-emotional skills to realize their full potential and transform their future. Only 20% of Oakland students are currently reading at grade level and low income students who do not read at grade level by third grade are 12x as likely to drop out of high school. SSL serves hundreds of K - 2nd grade children in Title 1 schools in Oakland and seeks to make equitable change in our community. SSL provides in-school and after-school programming for students most in need along with hosting family engagement events.

Every year, Super Stars Literacy celebrates a champion for education in the communities we serve. This year, we will be honoring Oral Lee Brown for providing over two decades of tutoring supports and college funding for Oakland students!

Please join us in raising awareness and funding for the work of Super Stars literacy and celebrating the advocacy of Oral Lee Brown. Enjoy refreshments, a silent auction, as well as a panel discussion: Navigating the Landscape of Public vs Charter Schools During Challenging Times. What does the future hold for our community?
