Event description

Description

Miles Malleson has captured not only the farcical comedy but also the delicious satirical tone found in Moliere’s The Bourgeois Gentilhomme in his new adaptation, The Prodigious Snob. The main character, a newly rich gentleman, discards his old friends and denies his past as he strives to become an aristocrat. He does not realize what a fool he is making of himself as he strives to impress those he deems superior. When he refuses to allow his daughter to marry the man she loves, his wife and maid recognize that he has to be taught a lesson, and there to contrive an enormous trick on the conceited fellow is the rejected suitor and his wily servant. While the play is full of fast-paced dialogue and physical comedy, it also makes a telling point about pretense and social status.
