The Process of Experiential Family Therapy: Language, Magic, & Healing
Who Should Attend?
This workshop is appropriate for social workers, family therapists, and counselors who are interested in learning how to improve their skills with families and couples by learning how to better use language and play.
Dr. Keith will draw on his 40+ years of experience teaching, supervising and practicing family therapy using Symbolic-Experiential Therapy. Dr. Keith will reference his numerous books and articles on the power of language and play to heal a wide variety of patients with a wide variety of issues. He will also discuss the therapist’s use of self.
1) Identify key elements of what experiential family therapy is, and how it is useful in the general population.
2) Demonstrate at least 2 ways to make use of the psychotherapist’s subjective experience in clinical work.
3) Demonstrate at least 2 ways to help patients learn to benefit from psychotherapy.
4) Identify how to incorporate the possibility of parallel play as a model for therapeutic work beyond interpretation.
5) Identify ways to attend to play with language as a critical component of experiential therapy.

This course, THE PROCESS OF EXPERIENTIAL FAMILY THERAPY: Language Magic & Healing Approval #161912-0284, provided by Family Service League, is approved for continuing education by the New Jersey Social Work Continuing Education Approval Collaborative, which is administered by NASW-NJ. CE Approval Collaborative Approval Period: February 20, 2017 through August 31, 2018. Social workers will receive six (6) clinical continuing education hours for participating in this course.
