Despite the fact that the United States is the World’s largest jailer, leading all countries in incarceration, statistics indicate that imprisoning all of these people has done nothing to decrease the nation’s crime rate. Students will explore how messaging by the media and politicians has created a questionable belief that prison is the only way to protect ourselves from crime. Participants will learn about the realities of the prison industry.
