Event description

Description

A unique and free opportunity to raise your awareness of what constitutes the distinct English as an Additional Language (EAL) pedagogy has arisen. On 12 December 2017, Kamil Trzebiatowski will present a 90-minute seminar, titled The Principles of the Distinct EAL Pedagogy at The Grammar School at Leeds. In his talk and presentation, he will familiarise the attendees with the major linguistic theories underpinning the accepted good EAL practice and provide numerous examples of putting these theories in practice in a classroom setting. In so doing, he will challenge some of the myths around what good EAL teaching is, and will provide the audience with a well-researched and evidence-based ground for effective differentiation for bilingual learners.

This session is appropriate for both primary and secondary school teachers.

ABOUT THE TRAINER:

Kamil has been an EAL Coordinator at Newland School for Girls since 2014, and has been teaching English language in a variety of context and countries since 1999. He is an independent EAL consultant/trainer (ktlangspec.co.uk), conference speaker as well as writer and blogger. He is leading a free Hull-based free EAL sharing practice group called HEAL (=Hull EAL; www.heal-hull.co.uk) for teachers and teaching assistants. He directed Hull's first ever EAL Conference (Newland School for Girls, 2015) and has led two free PedagooHull sharing practice events for teachers at the University of Hull. He is an executive member of NALDIC and a regular columnist for EAL Journal. Recently, he has been published in NQT: The beginning teacher's guide to outstanding practice, a SAGE/Durham University/University of Hull book.
