Event description

Description

Do you remember? You had all these dreams when you where a child. You wanted to fly to the moon, become a fashion model or doctor, or even develop a cure for some scary disease. Those dreams might have changed over time, but you always knew that you had the chance, the opportunity, if you just believed in yourself and worked hard enough on it, to actually get there.

Zebadiah’s life started out differently. He grew up in an underserved area of West Philadelphia as the child of immigrant parents. They were living hand to mouth, and while he likely had the same dreams as you, he did not expect to ever be able to achieve them.

As an introverted young man, Zebadiah found it difficult to express himself with words, which translated into frustration and the belief that his choices in life were limited. He felt he was destined to a path of little education, poverty, and living in high-crime neighborhoods.

But there was something inside Zebediah that kept him going: His love for music. And when he joined a local music program, something started to grow inside him: The dream to be a musician some day.

Zebadiah found his voice in the viola, and for the first time he even found like-minded friends. But, he still did not believe to ever be able to achieve that dream - his family could not even afford to get him his own instrument.

When the Primavera Fund’s merit-based music education program discovered Zebadiah in 2014, his life changed dramatically. Having access to a high quality instrument and to lessons with members of professional orchestras in the Philadelphia area, he quickly improved by leaps and bounds. But not only his life changed, his whole family suddenly had hope again.

Today, Zebadiah is a sophomore at Rowan University in New Jersey working towards a degree in Music Education. He is the first in his family to attend college, and is on track to achieving his lifelong dream of helping others through music.

Zebadiah was the Primavera Fund’s first Artist. Since, many young musicians have become Primavera Fund artists, and we are proud to have a 100% college acceptance rate, all for music.

These amazing young people show those around them in their families and communities that with the right support, anything is possible.

So, why am I telling you this? Because we have a chance for you to help improve the lives of even more underprivileged Philadelphia children.

And no, this is not a boring request for your money. Quite the opposite: We invite you to spend an unforgettable night with us in the beautiful Ormandy Ballroom for our yearly Fundraising Gala: The Primavera Fund’s Philadelphia Freedom.

Philadelphia Freedom is an event celebrating diversity, hope, and excellence in Philadelphia music education. But more so, it is celebrating making dreams come true for children in Philadelphia, children that a part of the 40% that live in poverty.
