The Pre Code Club - June
Date and time
A monthly club to screen movies and chat about the surprising dawn of Hollywood.
About this event
Did you know that up until 1925, an average of 50% of Hollywood releases were written by women? Or that almost every single convention of cinematography that we use today was established by the late teens? OR that before the Code, there were mainstream films exploring alternative lifestyles, reproductive rights and the links between crime and depravation?
Each month we will screen a feature or a night of shorts. There will be a brief talk giving a bit of background to the production or filmmakers, and a chance to discuss it afterwards.
For anyone curious about film - or just enjoys watching movies in a bar!
June's movie will be the masterpiece that launched MGM, BEN HUR, written and produced by June Mathis.
