Description

LIMITED SEATS AVAILABLE

RSVP for this 1-day all inclusive workshop shares a planning process for how your school or classroom can partner with the Whitney Plantation and their experts, immersing yourself in understanding the historical legacy of slavery while honoring the rich, cultural heritage Africans brought to this country. In this workshop, held on location at the Whitney Plantation, you will have an opportunity to tour the Whitney Plantation and using your own place based learning (PBL) experience, take an idea and turn it into an authentic project with high impact for your community by applying the design principles of culturally embedded, place based learning. This workshop is ideal for K-12 teachers and any other organization that works with students. We’ll help you crosswalk your idea, making sure that Grade-Level Expectations and standards are incorporated at the best possible junctures.

We’ll demystify the process of aligning projects to learning standards and cultural ways of knowing. We’ll share examples that illuminate how relevant, place based learning provides an engaging instructional approach for building leadership, critical thinking, creativity, communication and social entrepreneurship skills in students. This immersion workshop takes you through the planning process resulting in the development of a community-centered, standards based project that honors and integrates culture and produces tangible results for student learning and the community.

RSVP by clicking the 'REGISTER' link above. A $75 ON-SITE registration fee includes admission to Whitney Plantation, lunch, and supplies for the learning expedition.
