The Power of One: John Langan, Nina Harries and Randolph Matthews
Wed, March 29, 2017, 7:00 PM – 11:00 PM BST
Woodburner is proud to present The Power of One. 3 phenomenal solo artists, one night in Hoxton.
The man who gives mighty folk-ravers The Langan Band their name, John is a musical powerhouse the like of which may never be seen again. Having left home in Ayrshire at the age of 16 in pursuit of musical inspiration and a different life, John is an encyclopedia of original and traditional music drawn from a wealth of travel with his trusty guitar and cajon on his back. Who needs a mic when you've got lungs like his?
Inventive grooves and experimental sounds accompany Nina's revelatory songwriting. Come and discover what one woman and her double bass can do, with a startling combination of the operatic, comedic and the downright moronic. A class act.
Randolph takes his audience on an organic and magical journey with his solo show. Edge of the seat improvisation and witty stories double up over looped vocals, as though sound is erupting from within him in a musical volcano of clicks and glottal stops, Jazz percussive melodies and songs composed out of audience members names. You cannot simply watch him perform; you and Randolph become the performance together. Matthews says “When I am introduced on stage, the wording is always: 'Randolph does his thing… so without further ado, here is his thing…'"
