Alison James is Professor of Learning & Teaching, National Teaching Fellow, Principal Fellow of the HEA and accredited LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® facilitator. With Stephen Brookfield she is the author of Engaging Imagination: Helping Students Become Creative and Reflective Thinkers and, with Chrissi Nerantzi, she has recently edited The Power of Play: Creativity in Tertiary Learning. It collects over 40 examples of play in higher education internationally and shows that play can be at the heart of advanced learning in almost any context.

Bill Lucas is Professor of Learning and Director of the Centre for Real-World Learning (CRL). He founded CRL in 2008, together with Prof. Guy Claxton. In 2017 Bill was appointed by the OECD as co-chair of the strategic advisory group for the 2021 PISA test of Creative Thinking which will draw on the work of the CRL. Bill is an international adviser to the OECD/CERI research into critical and creative thinking in France. Bill is a prolific, award-winning writer, and has authored and co-authored over forty books and chapters and many peer-reviewed papers including, with Guy Claxton, Educating Ruby: What our children really need to learn. He is the creator of one of the biggest teacher researcher groups in the UK, the Expansive Education Network.

Paul Sowden is Professor of Psychology, Cognition and Creativity at the University of Winchester and Visiting Professor in the School of Psychology, University of Surrey. He is an Associate of the Institute of Business Creativity, Switzerland, a Chartered Psychologist and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Having planned a degree and career in law, a chance visit to see experiments in a university psychology department sparked a fascination from which he has never looked back. Reflecting Paul’s own varied interests and drive to explore new things, he has published on diverse topics relating to how humans perceive, interact with and create their world. His work has taken him into the perceptual worlds of radiologists, elite sports players, and African populations, the MRI brain imaging lab, the school classroom, the countryside and into the studio and creative process of garden designers.
