Event description

Description

This leadership opportunity, hosted by United Way of the Piedmont and Mary Black Foundation, and facilitated by Resource Solutions, is for all community members who want a deeper understanding of generational poverty and how it impacts the people we serve.

Whether we encounter it on a daily basis or choose to believe that it has no impact on our lives, poverty is a part of our reality. It is easier to discuss what “they” could or should do to change, rather than explore the self-imposed and systemic barriers that hinder individuals in generational poverty from achieving self-sufficiency.

The Poverty Factor, facilitated by Resource Solution’s Kimberly Jowers and Dr. Katrina Spigner, is an interactive experience that is designed to help individuals, leaders, organizations, and communities examine the experiences of individuals living in generational poverty, discover hidden personal biases, and develop strategies for change. It challenges each participant to discover their limits and then go beyond them at the individual and community level to redesign programs and approaches that better serve the individuals with whom we have contact.

This full-day session offers a deeper understanding of the challenges and needs of people in poverty and the know-how to partner with them to create successful outcomes that build healthy individuals; thereby creating healthy communities.
