Description

January 17 Update:

Hello, this film starts at 6:45 but we recommend arriving early. We’ll be there at 6:15 if you would like to join (or feel free to attend on your own).

Also, please note that this is not a free screening - guests are required to purchase their own ticket(s). We, “Washington, DC History & Culture,” are a non-profit community organization. They event may appear to be free because we are not collecting any $$$ for the tickets. However, the ticket sales are processed by the Silver Theatre, also a non-profit organization, and we are just helping them promote this event. To repeat, your Eventbrite “ticket” will not get you free admission to the film. If that changes your plans simply skip the event and apologies for any confusion there.

To purchase your ticket in advance please visit the Silver Theatre web site:

https://silver.afi.com/Browsing/QuickTickets/Compare

If you are interesting in joining up with us at the film, or with dinner beforehand you can follow the discussion on our Meetup.com page:

Cheers!

Robert

“The Post” is receiving great reviews, it’s set right here in Washington, DC (“The Post = The Washington, Post) and it’s based on a true story (the Pentagon Papers). Plus, it has Steven Spielberg, Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks.

Optional dinner beforehand at a TBD location nearby (to be announced a few days beforehand - any recommendations?).

The Post (film)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Post is a 2017 American political thriller film directed and co-produced by Steven Spielberg and written by Liz Hannah and Josh Singer. Set in the early 1970s, the film stars Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Sarah Paulson, Bob Odenkirk, Tracy Letts, Bradley Whitford, Bruce Greenwood, Carrie Coon, and Matthew Rhys. The Post depicts the journalists from The Washington Post and The New York Times who published the Pentagon Papers regarding the covert involvement of the United States government during the Vietnam War.

Principal photography began in New York City in May 2017. The film premiered at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. on December 14, 2017, and had a limited release in the United States on December 22, 2017, before a scheduled wide release on January 12, 2018.

The Post received highly positive reviews, with specific praise for the performances of Streep, Hanks and Odenkirk, and critics noting the film's comparisons of the administrations of Richard Nixon and Donald Trump. It was chosen by the National Board of Review as the best film of 2017, and was named as one of the top 10 films of the year by Time and the American Film Institute. At the 75th Golden Globe Awards, the film received six nominations: Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Director, Best Actress – Drama for Streep, Best Actor – Drama for Hanks, Best Screenplay and Best Original Score.

This is a joint event with “Washington, DC History & Culture” and the “AFI Cinema Group
