Event description

Description

Join us for the final seminar in our Dis-Placing Politics series. The evening will feature two complementary papers from Lucie Kim-Chi Mercier (Kingston University, London) and Barbara Cassin (CNRS) exploring translation, politics and post-coloniality.

Dr Mercier will elaborate critically on the remit of a 'politics of translation', by looking more specifically at parallel attempts to rethink the universal through translation in Gayatry Spivak, Etienne Balibar and Eduardo Viveiros de Castro in a paper entitled "The Politics of Translation: Questioning Universality". Dr Cassin's paper will respond to Dr Mercier's, addressing the politics of translation by critically examining relativism in translation.
