THE POETRY OF YOUR STORY

Online Ancestry Seminar & Poetry Workshop hosted by African American Irish Diaspora Network and Irish American Writers & Artists

Open to anyone interested in exploring their family story through poetry

Sunday December 11, 2022

1:00PM-2:00PM EST (6:00PM-7:00PM Ireland) Free Ancestry Seminar

2:30PM-4:00PM EST (7:30PM-9:00PM Ireland) Paid Poetry Workshop

Acclaimed poet Teri Ellen Cross Davis will lead an international panel of poets including Ireland Professor of Poetry Paula Meehan, Cave Canem fellow and Affrilachian Poet Remica Bingham-Risher, attorney and noted specialist in African American research Noah Lapidus, and Kyle Betit, Senior Genealogist with AncestryProGenealogists, in a free seminar on exploring ancestry.

Following the seminar, Teri Ellen Cross Davis, poetry coordinator of the Folger Shakespeare Library and a Cave Canem fellow, will hold a generative workshop exploring family and ancestry through poetry. Using close readings, participants will consider how poems can examine, celebrate and/or reconsider history, and discuss how persona and voice inform that writing.

Workshop will be limited to 30 participants.

$25 for members of AAIDN or IAW&A

$50 for non-members

Thanks to the generous support of the Consulate General of Ireland in New York, six scholarships will be made available for BIPOC writers to attend the workshop. Applicants should send an email expressing interest to Irish American Writers & Artists at IrishAmericanWritersAndArtists@gmail.com.
