The Poetry of Persia: A Rumi Celebration with Sufi Music, featuring Hedayat Shafeei & Poetry Reading by Deepak Chopra

Co-presented with The Alchemist's Kitchen

with Persian Music Ensemble & Special Guests including Hedayat Shafeei

Persian Music Ensemble's music is infused with the lyrical poetry of Rumi and Hafez, as well as Sufi repertoire including Persian Ghazal, and Turkish sacred songs (Illahi). Instrumentation includes the rich sound of the Persian Setar, the Arabic Oud and world percussion.

Hedayat Shafeei (tar) has been studying and practicing Persian music for over 30 years. Before moving to the US, he studied tar (the Persian long-necked stringed instrument) under Mansoor Seenaki at the Center for Preservation and Cultivation of Persian Classical Music (Markaze Hefz va Eshaeie Mosighie Sonati). In the US, Hedayat studied tar, radif, theory, and history of Persian music under two of the greatest masters of Persian music, Maestro Mohamad Reza Lotfi (for 8 years) and Maestro Dariush Talai (for 2 years). He is currently teaching and performing Persian classical music in the New York area.

She has performed with renowned Arab artists such as Marcel Khalife, Ziad Rahbani, Bassam Saba, Charbel Rouhana and Najib Shaheen. She is also a versatile performer of drumset in the genres of hard rock, jazz, funk, world, progressive and avante-garde.

Juliet Rabia Gentile is a historian, writer and performance artist. She is a spiritual representative of the Nur Ashki Jerrahi Sufi order based in NYC.
