Event description

Description

Oh darling, has it been a year already? A glorious year of eight
unique Poetry Brothel parties, since Joseph and I took over?

How many smile lines have we increased? How many out-of-warranty
repairs have we expensed, for all the mic-drops? How can we keep
inspiring this many tears without inducing another drought??

"The heart was made to be broken."
-- Oscar Wilde

If there ever were an opportunity to express your truest self Pridely and Wildely, feel your soul penetrated to the core, and have a nice quiet dinner, this is it.

Come enjoy non-stop punnilingus that knows no humility, deep brainal for those who want to push their literary boundaries, and an array of gorgeous talented tongues for the metaphoric tasting.

All this and non-stop vaudeville, wonderful live music, burlesque, magic, fortune-telling, face-painting, astonishment, import, and frivolity, on our 100-year-old stage. Performances by Johnny Nuriel and Isaiah Tillman, Olivia Bellafontaine, Vesta Vaingloria, Rachel Leigh, Brian Sonia-Wallace, Christian Geo, Terence Leclere, Kendalle Aubra, and introducing Peggy Dobreer, and Chelsea Rector our virgin poetry whores for the night! The melodic stylings of Joseph Windows To Sky, and of course your hostess Linda Ravenswood as Ach, Suzette, and the Madam of the West herself Bernadette McComish will be there for your entertaintment!

Don your dapper 19th century attire and come revel in a night of grammatical debauchery!

About The Brothel:

"13 Best Things to Do in LA: Prepare to have your expectations exceeded by The Poetry Brothel." - LA Weekly

Madam Tallula presents a rotating cast of poets who impart their work as purveyors of private poetry readings in secret, hidden, well-appointed chambers. You may avail yourself of your choice of poet for tokens at any time during the event.

On the patio, the troupe presents Tarot readings, poetic souvenirs, live typewriter poetry, and occasional burlesque and musical performances.

On the stage, a three-hour roster of Vaudeville variety entertainment and words, words, words.

The El Cid tapas kitchen and bar will be open for dinner and drinks throughout.

In addition to its poets, The Poetry Brothel presents artists and activists working in a variety of mediums both on stage and through its ever-changing array of intimate, interactive, and creative services. Artists performing with the Brothel are male, female, faeries, sea creatures, witches, aliens, POC, straight, queer, emerging, established, local, international, virgins, whores, and everything in between.

The Poetry Brothel recognizes that not everyone can take the mask of being a “whore” off at the end of the night and therefore uses its platform to support sex workers and to teach the public that sex work is real work. Sex work and poetry are two of the oldest professions - both feed the human need for intimacy, fantasy, and desire. By entwining these elements into a seamless, immersive experience, The Poetry Brothel promotes empowered sexuality practices and progressive artistic expression by exhibiting radical inclusion, consensual intimacy, conscious communication, and the inherent value of beauty in all its forms.

On Consent:

Behave with beauty, connect with intention. We are, by and large, a no-contact event -- here to blow your mind and nothing else! Always ask before touching anyone in our House, and report any discomfort to security or staff or the Madam Herself without delay.
