Event description

Description

The Poetry Brothel LA is back with an excitingly erotic return to El Cid.

Welcome to Dungeon ~ Unleashed, where our poets will reach out to the most sensual and hidden corners of their psyches to retell the adventures of the soul and the flesh.

Descend deeply into the darkness and consent to poetical intimacy, revelations that will make you pine, long, and sweat.

Do you yearn to feel the crack of the spine of a book?

Do you hunger for delicious words dripping from sensuous lips?

Do you enthusiastically consent to explore BDSM (Books, Diction, Descriptive Stanzas, Similes and Metaphors)?

Will you allow our poets, our musicians, our aerial and burlesque dancers to have their willful ways with your heart?

Well, come on over, you kinky thing!

As our Poets cater to our audience's passions, our On-Stage Cabaret will Spellbind you Hand and Foot, with the Masterful Entertainments we have Whipped Up.

It was torture to be apart.
Now it can be torture to be together!

About The Brothel:

"13 Best Things to Do in LA: Prepare to have your expectations exceeded by The Poetry Brothel." - LA Weekly

Madam Tallula presents a rotating cast of poets who impart their work as purveyors of private poetry readings in secret, hidden, well-appointed chambers. You may avail yourself of your choice of poet for tokens at any time during the event.

On the heated patio, the troupe presents Tarot readings, poetic souvenirs, live typewriter poetry, and occasional burlesque and musical performances.

On the stage, a three-hour roster of Vaudeville variety entertainment,
and words, words, words!

The El Cid tapas kitchen and bar will be open for dinner and drinks throughout.

Doors open at 6:30pm. (Note! New time!)

The show runs from 7pm-10pm.

Themed costumes and/or vintage formalwear are encouraged but not required.

~> In addition to its poets, The Poetry Brothel presents artists and activists working in a variety of mediums both on stage and through its ever-changing array of intimate, interactive, and creative services. Artists performing with the Brothel may be female, male, other, faeries, sea creatures, witches, aliens, straight, queer, creators of all colors, emerging, established, local, international, virgins, whores, and everything in between.

~> The Poetry Brothel celebrates paid personal connection, but recognizes that not everyone can take off the mask of being a “whore” at the end of the night, and therefore uses its platform to support sex workers, and to teach the public that sex work is real work. Sex work and poetry are two of the oldest professions - both feed the human need for intimacy, fantasy, and desire. By entwining these elements into a seamless, immersive experience, The Poetry Brothel promotes empowered sexuality practices and progressive artistic expression by exhibiting radical inclusion, consensual intimacy, conscious communication, and the inherent value of beauty in all its forms.

~> On Consent:

Behave with beauty, connect with intention. We are, by and large, a no-contact event -- here to blow your mind and nothing else! Always ask before touching anyone in our House, and report any discomfort to security or staff or the Madam Herself without delay.

This event is 21+

This is a wheelchair accessible event (ask us how!)

Our show includes flashing lights, reasonably amplified music, a startling glimpse of your true self, and fog machines
