Event description

Description

Who can benefit from learning how to plan, organize and promote a successful podcast? You guessed it, everyone!

The Detroit chapter of the Association for Women in Communications (AWC) will host a podcasting panel discussion on Wednesday, March 13th, 2019 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. A light meal will be provided.

Podcasting is a typically free service that allows Internet users to access audio files from a podcasting website to listen to on their computers, in their cars, or on personal digital audio devices, at their convenience.

With podcasting being so readily accessible, used and created by many content creators, how can communication professionals and other professionals in demanding fields use podcasting successfully to present relevant topics and potentially advance their careers?

The event will be held at the Specs Howard School of Media Arts, 19900 W. Nine Mile Rd., Southfield 48075. Moderated by Specs graduate, AWC committee member and doctoral candidate, Tarana Hammond, the expert panel, including local podcasters Zak Rosen, Juliet Hinely and Dave Phillips will provide advice and expertise on the following:

  1. Brief overview of podcasting; why is it so popular?
    1. What type of content is apropos for podcasting?
    2. The basics of a podcast; “how to” steps”
    3. How can entrepreneurs best use podcasting?
    4. How are podcasts monetized?
  2. How might communicators benefit their careers by using podcasts?
    1. How, why and when do you choose to add an audio or video cast to your news story, press release or marketing piece?
    2. How are communication practitioners using podcast technology for better storytelling?
    3. When podcasting falls under a bigger communications plan as one element of many, how do you allocate resources? Media plan weight? Time? Money?

Tickets are $25 for AWC members, $35 for future members, and $15 for students and recent graduates at the AWC Detroit website: www.womcomdetroit.org.
