The Plastic Problem: A Call to Action
Event Information
About this Event
Have you been worrying about the plastics problem and wondering what to do about it? You can make a difference by joining the growing global movement to end plastic pollution.
The Plastics Problem: A Call to Action will include watching the recent landmark documentary, The Story of Plastic, followed by a virtual discussion about potential solutions facilitated by Jasmin Barco (community organizer for Eco-cycle and Groundwork Denver). In this workshop, you will learn about current work and pending legislation on the plastics problem in Colorado, connect with other eco-leaders, and pledge to take purposeful personal action. We all have a responsibility to care for the earth and to work together to seek solutions to this urgent problem.
The event is open to faith communities across Colorado and to the public. The event is co-hosted by grassroots groups working for solutions to the climate crisis -- Eco-Cycle, Green Justice Team of The Kirk of Bonnie Brae, Green First Task Force of First Universalist Church of Denver, and Together Colorado/Climate Justice Committee.
How to participate: Once you register for the event, you will receive a link to the film and can watch it at your convenience. You also will receive a zoom link for the facilitated discussion to be held on Thursday, February 4th from 7:00-8:30 pm along with a curated list of resources and suggestions for information and action.
About the Film: The Story of Plastic takes a sweeping look at the man-made crisis of plastic pollution and the worldwide effect it has on the health of our planet and the people who inhabit it. Spanning three continents, the film illustrates the ongoing catastrophe with startling footage and interviews. It reveals an urgent problem but also inspires hopeful solutions through committed actions. The film was released in 2020 and is 90 minutes long. https://www.storyofplastic.org/
