Event description

Description

It is 1890 in Victorian London, England.

A radiantly handsome, impressionable, and wealthy young man is painted by a local London artist. A Faustian pledge to the devil to stay always as young as his portrait begins his dark pursuit of personal pleasure above all else. Led by the charming talk and famous wit of Lord Henry Wotton, Dorian becomes obsessed with beauty, youth, pleasure, and the importance of immediacy. And as the rest of the world ages, Dorian stays youthful. But his portrait, covered in secret in his dark attic, shows his true age, and the horrific result of his terrible transgressions that include a savagely cruel, cold-blooded murder and even more gruesome cover-up.

This beautiful, immersive production will be presented in promenade fashion, where you will move from scene to scene, following actors and scene changes that transport you through time and place, from a pleasant social affair to a dark, smoky opium den. Sporadic seating will be available in the space for audience members, but if you are not able to stand for more than 20 minutes, please let us know and we'll provide a folding chair that you can move with you through the space.

Due to the immersive nature of this production, there is a limited capacity of only 35 people per night.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Director and Adapter Alisa Stewart earned critical acclaim for her immersive production of Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap in January, 2018. The theater converted a retail store front at the Cady Building at the corner of SW Farmington and SW Watson in Beaverton into a 1951 London guest house, where audience members sat only inches from the actors, and the murder. The show sold out its original run, prompting a two week extension to accommodate demand. Please click here to view gallery photos from this unique immersive experience.

FAQ

What exactly do you mean by “immersive”?

Generally speaking, audience members are not merely passive bystanders. You are in the middle of the action, meeting the eyes of the actors, and essentially positioned in the center of the action. As an audience member, you will be able to explore your surroundings, move around as the actors are speaking, and even interact with some of the actors before and during the show, should you be so bold to do so. Some VIP guests will have the opportunity to mix and mingle at a party with our Victorian characters before the show begins.

Will there be seats?

The production is a promenade-style show, that is, you will move from one area to the next as the story-and time-progresses. There are some chairs and tables onto which you may lean or temporarily sit during any given scene, but not be enough chairs for everyone to sit. We do recommend you wear comfortable shoes. If you are someone who cannot stand for more than 15 minutes at a time, please let us know so that we can make arrangements for your needs. There will be some chairs available at all times for you to sit during the show.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

The production is recommended for ages 14 and older due to subject matter and mature situations.

No, we will have your name on our list if you purchase your tickets here on Eventbrite.

I’d like to plan lunch/dinner ahead of the play. What are my options?

Also nearby are Ickabod’s Bar & Grill, Broadway Saloon, and further north at the Beaverton Round, Siam Lotus and Mingo.
