The Perfect Prison: A Film Screening and Conversation
Event Information
About this event
After RSVPing, we will share a digital link to watch Breaking the Cycle before the event. We will watch an extended preview of Prison Project: Little Scandinavia together on November, 28th at 11:00am ( Alaska Daylight Time). Following the preview from 11:25 am - 1:00pm (AKDT) there will be a panel discussion and audience Q&A.
Positioned at the very end of the criminal justice system, prisons and prisoners get minimal attention. Intended to keep the convicted away from society, prisons are often places of injustice with little possibility of rehabilitation.
We can put offenders in a cell where they will be punished and degraded, or we can try to heal them. We can attempt to decipher ways to ensure this person does not re-offend, which is a much greater safety valve for society than locking someone up in isolation.
On Saturday, November 28th, we will examine how international agencies are implementing innovative solutions to bridge justice with psychology, therapy, job placement and recovery. The panel includes the voices of those formerly incarcerated in Alaska, a former Spring Creek Correctional Officer, and International panelists: Restorative Justice Judge - Clivia Von Dewitz, Breaking the Cycle Directors - John Stark and Tomas Lindh.
