Description
You are invited to a different kind of candidate event! At the “People’s Caucus,” everyday people will share their stories and questions with presidential candidates asking how they will put people first - in education, immigration, veterans benefits and matters of basic justice for all.
WHO: All declared candidates for President are invited to join 800+ people representing working families, members of faith-based organizations, and veterans from Eastern Iowa and across Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota.
WHAT: A people-oriented candidate forum just three weeks before the Iowa caucus.
FORMAT: Candidates will appear one at a time for 25-30 minutes. Each candidate will provide 3-4 minute opening remarks, followed by a response to a question or questions from citizen participants and a follow up question from the moderator(s).
WHEN: Sunday, January 12, 2020, 11:30 AM– 2:30 PM (Doors open at 11:00 AM
WHERE: Davenport North High School, 626 W. 53rd Street, Davenport, IA 52806 in The Performing Arts Center.
SPONSORS: Quad Cities Interfaith (QCI) is a community of people living out our faith and values to collectively transform our society and bring about justice and human dignity locally and regionally. QCI exists to form organizations that empower ordinary people to effectively participate in the political, environmental, social and economic decisions affecting their lives.
Gamaliel of Iowa and Illinois Gamaliel of Illinois and Iowa, a bi-state affiliate of the 15-state Gamaliel Network, is a faith-based, multi-ethnic, multi-racial grassroots organization whose mission is: a) to train ordinary people, primarily in low-income communities and communities of color, to effectively participate in the political, environmental, social, and economic decisions affecting their lives; and b) to build a diverse corps of grassroots leaders committed to transforming the systems and structures that perpetuate racial and comic inequity.
The Lane Evans Legacy Project aims to inspire a renewed commitment to values-based political leadership. The career and legacy of the late Congressman Lane Evans (D-IL) offers an example of authentic leadership that united people across lines of race, faith and party and spanned the urban-rural divide. Lane’s leadership inspired and helped Vietnam Veterans nationwide and is fondly remembered today by his constituents without regard to their partisan identifications.
