Event description

Description

The Peaceable Kingdom: Songs of Earth is an opportunity to explore our interconnectedness and what actions we can take to support each other on this planet. Randall Thompson’s extended composition The Peaceable Kingdom, inspired by the Edward Hicks’ painting of the same name, explores themes of good, evil, and peace. Estonian composer Veljo Tormis invokes ancient Shamanistic traditions to create an allegory about the evils of war and how we must learn to share the Earth in Curse Upon Iron. Reacting to the turmoil of the 2009 “Green Movement” in Iran (which saw the death and imprisonment of dozens of Iranian protestors) Canadian composer Iman Habibi created a stirring work for choir, Colour of Freedom.

Please join the Vancouver Cantata Singers and guest soloist Amir Haghighi in the atrium of the Blusson Spinal Cord Centre, one of the most unconventional yet vibrant spaces for music in our city, for a thought–provoking concert experience as we celebrate our environment here on Earth.

Blusson Spinal Cord Centre is a wheelchair accessible venue, read more here.
