The Paul Torrens Health Forum

Diversity in Health Professions:
Successes, Challenges and What the Future Holds

Diversity of all kinds impacts the patient experience–from racial, ethnic, cultural and sexual identities, to ageism, ableism, and gender differences, and even ways of thinking and domains of knowledge. Such differences may hinder some individuals from seeking care or cause cultural blind spots in clinicians and institutions that compromise quality care and perpetuate certain health disparities. Against the backdrop of recent political events, this Health Forum will explore both the power of diversity in complex systems as well as the challenges and considerations of recruiting, promoting and retaining a diverse healthcare workforce.
