Starring The Paul Giess Band

Paul Giess' development as a jazz artist has included both a strong eye on the future and the past.  He has dedicated himself to the repertoire the masters of the music while developing an individual style through his compositions and improvisations.  His current project turns to his childhood by presenting jazz arrangements of hymn tunes he grew up singing in church.  By including church music, and the blues, Paul roots his arrangements in the history of jazz music while maintaining a strong personal style.  Come enjoy the music and feel the groove, we promise you will have a good time!

Paul is a versatile trumpet player, composer, and educator from Philadelphia, PA.  He is well-versed in classical, jazz, and commercial musical styles.  Paul earned a Master of Music degree from Louisiana State University and a Bachelor of Music Degree, cum laude, from James Madison University.  While a student, Paul had the pleasure of studying with talented educators including Matt Gallagher, Jim Kluesner, Paul Neebe, John D’Earth, Chris Carillo, Joe Magnarelli, Brian Shaw, Ralph Alessi Bill Grimes, and Willis Delony.  Paul released his debut jazz album "U Suite U" in February of 2015.
Paul is currently active in multiple ensembles in the Philadelphia area including Outside Sound, Bitters and Rye Jazz Band, The Abstract Truth, Dr. B's Groove and The Sofa Kings.  Paul currently teaches at the Meridee Winter's School of Music and Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz.  Paul is also currently employed at The Center for Creative Works in Wynnewood where he produces recordings made by adults with disabilities.  Since graduating Paul has been involved with a variety of projects.  In January of 2015 he traveled to New Orleans Louisiana to be the musical director for an original theater work, “AMERICANA”.   In December of 2015 Paul was the trumpet player in the critically acclaimed performance of the musical Black Nativity, which was hosted by Theater Horizon in Norristown.  Black Nativity won a Barrymore award for Best Musical Ensemble.  Over the summer of 2015 Paul recorded music inspired by artwork made by people with disabilities with Outside Sound.  Over the summer of 2016 Paul recorded with Bitters and Rye Band for their first EP which was released in March of 2017.  Paul is also excited to announce that his composition "Prayer for Mimi" will be included in the Philadelphia Real Book, which will be published in the spring of   2017.

Featuring V. Shayne Frederick

V. Shayne Frederick is a North Carolina-born vocalist, pianist, arranger, and poet. Although he hails from a deeply musical family, his formal music education began at Dartmouth College. V. Shayne found his voice as a featured performer on the stages of Resorts Casino, Valley Forge Casino, the Kimmel Center, South Jazz Parlor, Suzanne Roberts Theatre, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Barnes Art Collection, and Art Sanctuary, among many venues. He also has performed in both the John Coltrane Jazz Festival and the Lancaster Avenue Jazz Festival. V. Shayne's melody and inventive baritone styling is reminiscent of the great soulful crooners of Jazz and contemporary world music of today.

Your Master of Ceremonies Buddy Scheerer

Buddy Scheerer has held positions with such local cultural organizations as The Philly Pops, The Philadelphia Orchestra and The Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts. He is an ambassador of all things music and very much enjoys connecting audience and performance; he may also enjoy the spotlight…just a little.

The experience that is Vesper.

A hideaway in the heart of Philadelphia, Vesper is a modern-day supper club with an Old World feel. We invite diners into an era when meals are events to look forward to and luxuriate over: appreciating the complexity of a cocktail, every fresh ingredient, and your companion’s conversation.

With its shadowy past of mob deals, bathtub gin, and general debauchery, Vesper was re-invented in 2015 by owners Brendan Smith, Chuck Ercole, and John Barry. The restaurant is a relaxing, removed oasis for an entire evening’s worth of entertainment.

During Vesper Club’s mid-century incarnation, prohibition lured out a mischievous side in every person, however there were also stringent rules of etiquette to abide by in polite society. Etiquette guides offered advice such as “do not shake a lady’s hand first, let her do it.”

While we’re not so stuffy or particular nowadays, we pride ourselves on offering a refined environment for enjoying a cocktail after work, a client lunch, or date night. We advise ‘smart casual’ dress and appreciate your leaving flip flops and baseball hats for more desultory environments.

At Vesper, you may come for Happy Hour and wind up dancing to our live music until last call. We recommend making meal reservations and allowing yourself to open up to an evening of possibilities.

Come Join The Fun an Have A Great Time With Us!
