Our featured panelists will be talking through their research in what schools have been doing across the world to re-open, the economics of COVID-19, perspectives from a pediatric specialist, and the president of the Chicago Principals and Administrators Association to speak to the challenges CPS is facing and what the future may look like.
Dr. Tina Tan is a professor in pediatrics specializing in infectious diseases at the Northwestern Feinberg school of medicine. Dr. Tan is the Chairperson of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Section on Infectious Diseases (SOID) and a member of the AAP Committee on Infectious Diseases (COID – Redbook Committee).
Dr. Emily Oster is a bestselling author and Professor of Economics at Brown University. Her research focuses on health economics, and recently, she has been spearheading the National Covid-19 School Response Dashboard.
Dr. Brandon Guthrie is an infectious disease specialist and faculty member of the Department of Global Health at the University of Washington. He recently published a paper analyzing the practices of schools around the world and what we can learn from them.
Troy LaRaviere is the president of the Chicago Principals and Administrators Association and a leader in education across Chicago. He led his school from having the fourth highest percentage of its students meeting reading standards to ranking #1 in that category among more than 600 neighborhood schools with no selective enrollment programs. He was named one of the most awarded principals in Chicago.
Professor Heather Aranyi, M.M., M.Ed. is a renowned thought leader, innovator and entrepreneur. A child development expert and master educator, she has created outstanding programs for children and families throughout her career. She has worked with the Chicago Public Schools for the last decade. Professor Aranyi has received numerous awards in honor of her innovations, including a McCormick Fellowship for Outstanding Leadership in the field. She is on faculty at both Northwestern University and the Lyric Opera of Chicago
