The Passage (2025) is a poetic short film by Sarah Rhodes that drifts between underworld and overworld, exploring the relationship between the human subconscious as inner world and the outerworld we inhabit. Presented as part of a curated collection of art films on connection and belonging, the work explores the relationship between person and place.
The Passage [2025, 7:00] moves between the underworld (caves) and the overworld (Mt Etna, Sicily and Ben Lomond, Tasmania), imagining a person’s passage between interior and exterior worlds. By drawing a parallel between subterranean landscapes and the human subconscious, it explores how people understand themeselves through the continual movement between self and place.
The Passage will be screened in a 7 minute loop throughout the day at the Peacock Theatre on December 3 and 4.
