Event description
The Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra, Double D & The Skipper Quartet

About this Event

Once again the Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra will return to Zebulon, this time to remember the great Horace Tapscott.

Horace Tapscott was the founder and conductor of The Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra. The Ark began in ‘61 as small rehearsals in his garage and grew to congregations of 20+ musicians. Over the 68 years active, over 300 musicians and counting have played with The Ark. Horace’s music reflected his deep love of his community. He was a social/political activist, community focused, world class musician. To many who knew him, he was a friend, father figure, musical griot. February 27th 2019, marks 20 years since his passing. The Ark will perform a special set to honor Horace.

Also performing: Double D & The Skipper Quartet. For those who don’t know, these aliases belong to local jazz greats Donald Dean & Henry Franklin. Both Franklin and Dean knew Tapscott from the days of his early garage rehearsals. Each has had a strong career, performing and recording with some of the best musicians on the planet.

Mark Maxwell & Jesse Justice will be DJing.

See you there!
