Join us for Supporting Your Child’s Gifts & Talents: A Talent Development Roundtable on Tuesday, June 12 at 6:30 pm. Experts Janine Caffrey, author of Nurturing Brilliance: Discovering and Developing your Child’s Gifts and Hollingworth’s Heather Pinedo-Burns explore ways for parents to support the strengths and talent areas of their children. Come get an actionable list of things you can do throughout the summer and every day to support your child’s strength areas. Multiple intelligences and talent development will also be the focus of the experts.Parents will lend concrete recommendations of local NYC-based resources, activities, events, and summer enrichment programs for your child to stay connected with peers and have hands-on learning opportunities throughout the summer. Plus, meet other like-minded parents at this informal session for preschool and elementary school parents. This ticket entitles ticket holder to the P.A.L. Workshop: JUNE 12, 2012- 6:30- 8:00 pm-Supporting Your Child’s Gifts & Talents: A Talent Development Roundtable, General Admission. PLEASE NOTE the location for this event is at the Downtown Community Center at 120 Warren Street between Greenwich Street and West Street in Tribeca.

Calling All Parents!

Is your child an early reader? Is he showing advanced abilities- beyond same age peers- in music, art, math or other areas? Do strangers keep asking in disbelief, 'How old is she!?' Is she intensely curious or sensitive? Is he bored or acting out in the general ed classroom? A bit too good at negotiating? And are you looking for resources and ways you can support your child's advanced abilities?

If so, join us for the P.A.L. Workshop Series and discover how we can help each other with the typical issues of accelerated learners.

This Spring 2012, P.A.L. [Parents of Advanced Learners] returns with a new blog, a listserv for parents to connect with one another and discuss resources for advanced learners, and our P.A.L. Workshops Speaker Series for Parents, with more locations to hear great speakers. January includes a Conversation with Gifted Education Expert Rena Subotnik on Shifting from the Best of Gifted Education to Talent DevelopmentSupporting Early Giftedness Through Play in February is for parents who have noticed advanced abilities in their young children and want concrete activities and games to support and encourage their strengths. March offers a media rich discussion on The Power of Books and Film for Kids with a focus on bibliotherapy. Special Topics in Gifted Education: Guiding Gifted Girls, in April and May's Supporting Your Child's Gifts and Talents will appeal to parents of elementary and middle schoolers; and a great Spring wrap-up with Preventing Summer Slide: Engaging Math, Reading and other Enrichment Activities to Prevent Summer Learning Loss will help keep your kiddo on track through the school break.

Most events take place at the Downtown Community Center in Tribeca at 120 Warren Street between Greenwich and West Street. Please confirm location on your ticket, as the January event is offsite at the Speyer Legacy School on the UWS.

The Parents of Accelerated Learners, NYC [PALNYC] mission is to collaborate with educational organizations and experts to help parents support the cognitive, social and emotional needs of their children. Our offering of support includes educational workshops for parents and teachers, talent development-based resources and programs, mentorships and networking opportunities and a discovery platform for web and app-based learning tools for kids.  

PALNYC is particularly passionate about closing the education gap in NYC by working with local outreach organizations to ensure that every parent has the resources to pursue quality education for their child.
