Program:

*NOTE: Program begins at 12:00 PM at Cham Community Center / Masjid (5945 39th Ave South, Seattle); at 1:15 PM the program shifts to Seward Park, Seattle (Upper Parking Lot near Picnic Shelter #3)

1:15 Leave for Seward Park Upper Parking Lot (5900 Lake Washington Blvd S)

1:30 - 4:00 PM Walk & Talk in Seward Park with Imam Mendes

  • Fitrah Outdoors Founder Sulayman Christopher will guide the group through Seward Park's old growth forest as Imam Mendes facilitates timely discussions about digitally disconnecting and tapping into knowing our neighbors--the trees.
  • Imam Mendes will explore a-hadith, Qur'anic verses, indigenous wisdom, and other stories that highlight the magnificence realities of tree that Allah has created.

Note: We will be outside for the majority of the program, will be walking a total of 2 miles on designated paths (most of which are wheelchair accessible), and encourage participants to dress warmly, including a rain jacket, bring snacks, and bring a reusable water bottle.


Level: Beginner and above; family friendly, all are welcome, and the route is also wheelchair accessible. No special equipment or experience is needed. This is a simple, short walk in the woods, with breaks to sit on logs and on the bark below our feet :)

I pledge to place all electronic devices (phones, watches, tablets, laptops, cameras, etc) in a secure bag that Fitrah Outdoors will provide upon arrival and secure for participants for the duration of the program (or leave all electronics in my vehicle). I understand that this Fitrah Outdoor policy applies to all programs, and is offered to me as a unique opportunity to build connection, both inwardly and outwardly, with other people, other creations, and to regenerate my own fitrah. I understand Sulayman Christopher from Fitrah Outdoors will have his mobile phone (WhatsApp +1-608-509-3346) on and will be reachable in the event of an emergency.

*accommodations to the electronic devices policy can be made for extenuating circumstance such as medical emergencies and other requirements (e.g. blood sugar monitoring etc.)

Photography and Video

By purchasing a ticket for this program, I understand that a photographer/videographer will be taking video footage and photos that may be used by Wasat and Fitrah Outdoors to document the program and share online via social media / websites.

Media Use

Program staff will take photos and videos throughout the program and share them with participants upon the completion of the trip.

Other

Participation in this trip involves physical activity and potential risks, including but not limited to injuries, accidents, and unforeseen circumstances. By purchasing a ticket, I understand these risks and agree to participate at my own discretion.

The organizers and associated entities are not responsible for any personal injury, illness, loss, or damage to personal property that may occur during the trip.
