Description

This event is free, no tickets necessary. Please just RSVP, arrive, and take your seats! Seats are taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Your RSVP does NOT guarantee admission.

  • Works by Ravel, Nielsen, and Rimsky-Korsakov
  • TŌN performs two suites and a song cycle on Arabian themes
  • Conducted by JoAnn Falletta; “One of the finest conductors of her generation” –The New York Times
  • With mezzo-soprano Susan Platts; "luscious vocalism" –Los Angeles Times

Nielsen: Aladdin Suite
Imaginative and ornate. Created by the composer from incidental music for a play, it was perhaps the last music Nielsen heard, in a radio broadcast while on his deathbed.

Ravel: Shéhérazade
Ascends into feverish lyricism. Ravel sets to music the poem that helped inspire Rimsky-Korsakov to write his symphonic suite.

Rimsky-Korsakov: Scheherazade
Enticing and exotic. Rimsky-Korsakov’s most famous work was later adapted into a ballet, controversial in its sensual choreography.
