Event description

Description

Some have called it a fair advantage, others, technological doping. Look at the feet of every elite athlete and you will see the same shoe. The last year has seen road and track records alike fall to the feet of the new phenomenon in running - The Nike Vaporfly 4% shoes. These controversial footwear have divided sports fans and scientists in the discussion of fair play in sports. Are they a science experiment or legal aid for running? How does the technology work? and why is this worldwide sensation so controversial?

One of Irelands leading footwear experts, Dr. Joe Warne, will answer all these questions and more during a public seminar in TU Dublin. Dr. Warne is a lecturer in Sports Science and Health and is an active researcher and published scientist in the area of running footwear. His work has been featured in media such as RTE and the42.ie. The seminar will explore the science behind this new footwear technology, as well as discuss some of the issues and need for regulation around "technological doping" in the future.

*Please note there will be limited ticket sales on the night so advanced booking is advised.
