"The Next Festival of Emerging Artists is committed to the future of music in so many ways. The festival brings together amazing performers and composers at the beginning of their careers to create, perform and nourish the music of our time . We’re so excited to make our National Sawdust debut – it’s a perfect match for the Festival’s innovative, entrepreneurial and highly collaborative environment and ethos.
Every year, the festival collaborates with Guest Artists who are incredible advocates for the music of living composers and who have unique career trajectories. We’ve worked with Matt Haimovitz, ETHEL, Jeffrey Zeigler and Nadia Sirota. Working with Jennifer Koh and performing the music Anna Clyne created for her is a total thrill. It will be an amazing experience for the performers and the audience alike!"
Violinist Jennifer Koh joins the artists of The Next Festival of Emerging Artists in a program of contemporary works for string orchestra. Led by Artistic Director Peter Askim, the performance will include Anna Clyne’s moving Rest These Hands, written for Ms. Koh, as well as the music of living composers.
The Next Festival features talented string players from around the country, and is dedicated to artistic development, entrepreneurial career strategies and the music of living composers. Active as a conductor, composer and performer, Mr. Askim is the founder of the Next Festival and conductor of the Raleigh Civic Orchestras. Ms. Koh is recognized as one of the leading violinists of her generation and a passionate advocate for the music of our time.
