(6 CE hours available for psychlogists, social workers, counelors and LMFTs through Cassidy Seminar. Purchase CE hours here: https://www.academeca.com/CEUReg/SeminarInfo.aspx?seminarId=2698)

Class Outline

This workshop is designed to provide a neuroscience-informed overview to treating trauma. Talk therapy alone is often inadequate to address the full spectrum of trauma symptoms. Participants will learn how to conceptualize trauma cases utilizing an integration of somatic, psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and strength-based framework. Therapeutic principles for working with trauma effectively and safely will be delineated (AORTAS - attunement, organicity, resourcing, titrating, agency, and swinging/systems). Mind-body resourcing and trauma processing techniques will be introduced. A brief overview of memory reconsolidation research will be included and important implications for working with trauma memory will be discussed.

Some questions that will be addressed in this workshop:

  • how trauma changes the brain
  • how to leverage neuroscience findings to increase therapeutic effectiveness
  • how early relationships impact physiology and psyche
  • how early survival strategies save and trap your clients
  • how to work with explicit and implicit memory in trauma processing
  • how to differentially conceptualize and treat shock trauma and complex trauma
  • how to resource your clients using mind-body approaches to help them work through trauma with more stability and presence
  • how trauma cascades across generations
  • how to connect cognitions, emotions and body sensations in trauma treatment
  • how mindfulness can be modified to be trauma-sensitive
  • how to integrate somatic approaches to evidence-based practice
  • how to help your clients build resilience and facilitate post-traumatic growth
