Event Details

Climate change is now widely recognized as one of the greatest threats of the next century to the natural and human world. Yet, most conservation efforts, from wilderness preservation to restoration of degraded habitats, have assumed that what we see today is what we will see tomorrow. Entering a new era, with potentially dramatic but uncertain changes, will required a renewed focus on landscape level planning and new tools to prepare for the new normal.
Join us for an interactive field trip and dialogue at the Pepperwood Preserve on November 14, 2013 from 9am-3pm. As part of the Terrestrial Biodiversity and Climate Change Collaborative (TBC3), Pepperwood Preserve and the Bay Area Open Space Council invite you to be one of the first to see how a ground-breaking tool can be used to apply cutting-edge science on the ground, in the field, and down the watershed.
There will be mini-field trips to learn how to navigate the new realities of a warmer environment including invasive plants, grazing and Douglas fir control. The Conservation Lands Network Explorer tool will have new capabilities to look into the future for adaptive management decisions today. We will engage with researchers about their work and its applicability to on-the-ground stewardship. And you will leave Pepperwood with tools, information and connections that will bolster your ability to manage the land in the new normal.
