This CE class is offered via live webinar as well as in-person. Please select the ticket type that you prefer.

This presentation covers the neuropsychology of executive functions through a Mind, Brain, and Education framework. The field of “Mind, Brain, and Education” is a cross-disciplinary movement focused on using neuroscience research to enhance clinical and educational practice. Dr. Resnik reviews clinically useful concepts from neuroscience about the executive functions and how they develop in typical children versus children with disabilities. Special focus will be on the attentional system, working memory, and neuroplasticity. Dr. Resnik also addresses the complex interplay between learning and emotion. In discussing the so-called “hot” executive functions, she reviews concepts related to self-regulation, motivation, and behavior. Dr. Resnik discusses how “behavior” problems can be re-conceptualized as executive functioning deficits. Attendees will learn about the Constructed Theory of Emotion and the Constructed Theory of Memory, and how these ideas enhance our understanding of children’s needs across settings. The presentation includes opportunities to use case study data to practice applying new concepts. Attendees will discuss assessment, treatment, and interventions from a “Mind, Brain and Education” informed approach. Attendees will tackle practical issues in generating and interpreting assessment data for complicated children/teens. Attendees will use case study material to create data-based treatment plans and specific recommendations for interventions.
