The National Youth Summit on Education, Justice, and the US Economy: The Leadership Academy will be held in Jackson, Mississippi on October 28th and 29th, 2019 with an opening reception and museum tour on October 27th. This fifth national summit is an exceptional opportunity for educators and high school student leaders from across the United States to interact and work with leading educators, justice professionals, and economists. Participants learn to take ownership for creating educational excellence by examining the school to prison pipeline, creating models of discipline based on inherent strengths and develop innovative economic strategies not dependent upon the current system of mass incarceration.

Students will work with:

More than 20 local and national experts from universities, agencies, and business
Civil rights legends
Keynote Speaker
Plenary speakers
Experts in education, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, healing, and STEM

The Summit, will once again bring together educators and high school student leaders from cities across the United States to work with leading educators, academics, law enforcement, and economists to examine the school to prison pipeline, create a model of discipline based on inherent strengths and develop innovative economic strategies not dependent upon the current system of mass incarceration. Students will be challenged and encouraged to pursue a resurgence of academic excellence, highly engaged educators and exceptional expectations for themselves and those that serve them.

October 27th, The opening reception will be held at the Jack Robertson Museum and is open to all registered participants, speakers, panelists, presenters, and guests. The location will provide an opportunity for participants to visit the museum followed by a meet and greet with civil rights legends, educators and students from around the country.

October 28th, A day of plenary sessions at Jackson State University that includes our commissioned video of four civil rights leaders from the 1960s who tell their stories of changing the nation as young adults, a panel of national civil rights legends, a judicial panel that gives insight to the judiciaries role in the criminal justice system and field questions from educators and students, and a dynamic keynote speaker.

October 29th, workshops will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. where students will have an opportunity to work directly with civil rights legends and national experts from across the country. We are in the planning process to hold the workshops at the Two Mississippi Museums where students will have an extended opportunity to concurrently visit the museums.

We are proud of serving over 7000 students and educators in our 11-year history of hosting youth summits locally and nationally in a safe and encouraging atmosphere. Schools and organizations are asked to select students based on intellectual capacity and leadership skills regardless of academic performance or disciplinary record. We hold high expectations and students consistently rise to those expectations. Chaperones should accompany all participants under the age of 18.
