The hallmark of Christmas has become one defined by shopping, wrapping, decorating, baking, gift giving and more importantly gift getting, and trying to fit all the social ‘get togethers’ and office parties into just a few weeks. Then all of a sudden it is Dec. 26th, and everything we spent months getting ready for is over. This leaves many of us feeling exhausted and a little depressed, as we realize we have over spent, and have no room for all the stuff we got that we didn’t need.
At Augusta Church of Christ we are preparing a Christmas dramatization known as “The Mystery”. The point and purpose of “The Mystery” is to once again connect with the true meaning of Christmas: the gift of Christ. As we begin to enter this holy time of year, we desire to portray the life and times of Jesus Christ, from his birth, through his earthly journey, his death and resurrection.
It is our desire that all who are able to attend will leave the performance with a sense of what Mary may have pondered when the angel told her she was the chosen one to give birth to the Messiah, or the frustration that Joseph felt as he walked through Bethlehem attempting to find lodging for his wife who would soon deliver a child, or perhaps the fear and amazement the shepherds experienced as the angel of the Lord appeared in the sky telling them of the birth of the baby Jesus. We are greatly hopeful that as the audience views the crucifixion, the true gift and sacrifice of Jesus, each heart will be deeply touch, and will then rejoice as the resurrection is both seen and felt.
We are putting forth much effort to make each step in Christ’s journey as realistic as possible. Bethlehem will come to life before your very eyes, angels really will appear in the sky and, as an alert to those with young children, the crucifixion scene will be graphic, and therefore possibly frightening.
Our goal is that all who are able to attend, will experience through sight, sound, touch and smell a glimpse of what it may have been like during this period of time. We invite you to come with an open heart and allow God to fill it with joy.
Performances are offered on eight different occasions:
