The Music Path to Math: Grades K-2
Registration for this workshop opens on August 1, 2018.

Music is math!  Even if you don't consider yourself a musician, you can connect music to your K-2 classroom math core, develop math skills in your students, and have fun all at the same time. Hands-on music activities will reinforce grouping, patterning, counting, sequencing, measurement, place value, geometry, classification, addition/subtraction, and fractions.

Relicensure hours are available for licensed educators.

Light snacks will be provided.  Parking on campus is free after 4 pm.

 

Where: Weber State University, Davis Campus, Building D3, Ballroom B (2750 University Park Blvd, Layton, UT 84041-9099)

When: Thursday, September 20, 2018 from 5-7 pm (sign in from 4:30-5 pm)

About the Presenter, Jennifer Purdy

Jennifer Purdy works for BYU and Westminster College as a Professional Development Partner in the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program.  In 2017 she was named Elementary Music Educator of the Year by the Utah Music Educators Association, and in 2014 she was named Salt Lake School District’s Outstanding Arts Educator of the Year. She specializes in arts curriculum development and integration with classroom core subjects. She has instructed pre-service elementary teachers at Westminster, University of Utah, Brigham Young University, and Utah State University; she currently teaches a class in the Arts Engage series at Utah Valley University and is an instructor for the graduate-level Arts Integration Endorsement class at BYU. She teaches workshops around the state on how to utilize the arts in elementary school classrooms.
