Description

The Miracle of Ko’olau” is the extraordinary story of how a pastor and his church showed out-of-the-box thinking by buying a $120-million 246-acre golf club and banqueting business with only $200,000 in capital savings. It’s the saga of vision-casting, change management, high risk, faith, pain and sorrow, ending with the property being fully paid off 11 years later in August, 2017 realizing a thriving profitable business model that ministers to the marketplace in a creative, effective way and brings about social justice

Speaker- Dan Chun

Dan is the social entrepreneur behind the unique blending of the 18-hole Ko‘olau Golf Club (koolaugolf.com), Honey’s Sports Bar, the Ko‘olau Ballrooms and Conference Center (koolauballrooms.com), and the 1200-member First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu (fpchawaii.org) at a beautiful 246-acre property in Kaneohe Hawaii where the golf course is one of the toughest in the nation and has been played twice by President Obama.

Dan Chun has been the Senior Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu since 1994. The church sanctuary and offices and classroom are housed in the 3-acre under roof golf clubhouse. Dan hosts a video campus tour of the campus as a Jedi Master on the church website (fpchawaii.org

Dan received his M.A. from the University of Southern California in Cinema Production from the School of Performing Arts, with M.Div. and D.Min. degrees from Fuller Theological Seminary (where he is now a trustee), and a B.S. in Communications from Lewis and Clark College, Portland, Oregon. Dan has spoken all over the United States with Promise Keepers and in other countries like England, Thailand, China, Singapore, and the Philippines.

Dan and wife Pam founded Hawaiian Islands Ministries (HIM) in 1983 with the vision of catalyzing Christian renewal and revival in Hawaii through annual trans-denominational, cross-generational equipping events for the Christian churches and leaders in Hawaii. The annual HIM conference in March gathers 4000 people including 1000 youth. It has trained more than 65,000 leaders (himonline.org).

Dan is working on an augmented reality app that features Jesus speaking in 3D motion capture. He is partnering with Remington Scott, the director of Call of Duty and whose visual effects teams won an Academy Award for their work on Gollum and other visual effects in the Lord of the Rings: Two Towers and Spider-Man 2 movies.

Dan and wife Pam have three children (Noelle, Dylan, and Quinn who live in San Francisco, New York and London respectively) and two dogs (Max and Molly who love Honolulu). Two of his children were born in Stanford Hospital when Dan served as an Associate Pastor at Menlo Park Presbyterian Church.

Opening speaker- Kenneth Yeung.

Kenneth Yeung is a graduate of University of Hawaii, where he earned a Master’s degree in social work and international social policy. He moved to San Francisco where he took a position as ministerial assistant at a Chinese church. After several years, he realized that working in the church was not his calling. Kenneth felt that business was his calling and his ministry would be helping people.

Kenneth comments: "I established a contract with God and told him, regardless of what I do, whether in business or anything, I want to be a genuine Christian. If you are leading me to business, I want to acknowledge and remind myself that I am your servant, steward and want to manage the business for you.”

In 1983, Kenneth founded “Prince of Peace,” a name he used to remind himself of his contract with God. Through his choice of the company name, his goal was to build a company upon the ethical principles of the Christian faith. Kenneth attributes his successes to God’s guidance and blessings.

Prince of Peace specializes in the marketing, importing and distribution of gourmet products, beverages, dietary supplements, natural OTC topical analgesics (Tiger Balm®), herbal products and teas; as well as product formulation, packaging, and private labeling. Prince of Peace also owns its own brand of American Ginseng Root, Ginger Honey Crystal, Ginger Chews and Chinese Organic Teas. Prince of Peace is headquartered in the SF Bay Area, and has offices in New York and Los Angeles, Hong Kong, China, and Malaysia.

Kenneth has a great passion for charity and is the founder "Showers of Blessings" TV Ministry, USA, the POP's Foundation in the U.S., and the Prince of Peace Children's Home in Tianjin, China. POP Children's home is a training center for special education, rehabilitation, social work and is recognized by the Chinese government. POP supports many Christian media programs and charity events in US and China.
