Event description

Description

Due to technological advancements, nearly every aspect of filmmaking has become more accessible. As a result, filmmakers are expected to have a basic understanding of the entire filmmaking production pipeline. The Postproduction Bootcamp will cover foundational yet essential topics necessary for a successful and effective postproduction experience.

The MFA Postproduction Bootcamp goal: For participants to gain a comprehensive and overall understanding of the technical concepts, language, and software needed to navigate the various topics of postproduction.

The Bootcamp will begin by defining and explaining the terminology of editorial workflows, such as resolution, frame rate, and codecs. We’ll then learn how apply those elements to an editorial workflow and how they relate to other relevant aspects such as log, raw, and luts.

After the morning discussion of technical terms, the workshop will transition to a brief overview of hardware and performance based topics such as hard drives, hard drive speed, graphics cards, data management, and proper archival procedures. We’ll cover how each of these components work together to ensure a reliable and effective editorial experience.

For the afternoon, we will utilize the various terms and hardware discussed throughout the morning lecture within two industry leading software programs, Adobe Premiere and Davinci Resolve. We’ll start by looking at the limitless customization of the Adobe Premiere interface, simple editing workflows and techniques, exporting to various platforms, and how the Adobe Creative Cloud ecosystem best serves a digital video production. Next, we’ll look at how the same concepts and workflows can be executed inside of Davinci Resolve.

As we cover both Adobe Premiere and Davinci Resolve, an emphasis will be placed on proper color correction and color grading techniques. Through demonstrations and discussions of the pros and cons of each software, participants can expect to gain a fundamental understanding of how to navigate and utilize each software for their own productions.

The Postproduction Bootcamp is intended for novice and intermediate filmmakers with a strong interest in gaining a better understanding of effective postproduction workflows.
