L’archéologie au service d’un projet de restauration: Au premier regard, les bâtiments entourant l’église médiévale de l’ancienne abbaye de moniales cisterciennes de La Cambre appartiennent principalement au 18e siècle. De récentes campagnes de travaux sur l’aile orientale du cloître ont permis d’appréhender les espaces médiévaux primitifs du carré claustral de l’abbaye, tant en plan qu’en élévation. Au cours de cette visite autour du cloître et dans l’église, vous ferez un bond de 800 ans dans le temps pour partir à la découverte – par le biais de l’archéologie – des vestiges encore largement méconnus de l’abbaye médiévale de La Cambre. D’intéressantes comparaisons avec son abbaye-mère, l’abbaye cistercienne de Villers-en-Brabant (Villers-la-Ville), lèvent un coin du voile sur la silhouette de ce cloître bruxellois du 13e siècle.

De archeologie ten dienste van een restauratieproject: Op het eerste gezicht behoren de gebouwen rond de middeleeuwse kerk van de voormalige cisterciënzerabdij van Ter Kameren hoofdzakelijk tot de 18de eeuw. Recente werkzaamheden aan de oostelijke vleugel van het klooster hebben het mogelijk gemaakt om de primitieve middeleeuwse ruimten van het klooster van de abdij te begrijpen, zowel in plattegrond als in opstand. Tijdens dit bezoek rond de kloostergang en in de kerk nemen wij u 800 jaar mee terug in de tijd om - door middel van de archeologie - de nog grotendeels onbekende overblijfselen van de middeleeuwse abdij van Ter Kameren te ontdekken. Interessante vergelijkingen met de moederabdij, de cisterciënzerabdij van Villers-en-Brabant (Villers-la-Ville), lichten een tipje van de sluier op over het silhouet van dit 13de-eeuwse Brusselse klooster.

Archaeology at the service of a restoration project: At first glance, the buildings surrounding the medieval church of the former abbey of Cistercian nuns of La Cambre mainly belong to the 18th century. Recent work campaigns on the eastern wing of the cloister have made it possible to understand the primitive medieval spaces of the cloister buildings of the abbey, both in plan and in elevation. During this visit around the cloister and in the church, we will take you back 800 years in time to discover - by means of archaeology - the still largely unknown remains of the medieval abbey of La Cambre. Interesting comparisons with its mother abbey, the Cistercian abbey of Villers-en-Brabant (Villers-la-Ville), lift a corner of the veil on the silhouette of this 13th-century Brussels cloister.
