This is a weekly series. Students who wish to attend individual sessions may come and pay cash at the class.

The title "Tzaddik", righteous, is bestowed by scripture and our Talmudic sages upon particular individuals in varying situations for reasons that are often unclear and certainly unalike. The list of those to whom this title is directly applied is relatively short. G-d is referred to as "Tzaddik" along with Noah, Joseph, Benjamin, Boaz, the People Israel, and very few others. Notably missing from the list are the Patriarchs, Matriarchs, judges, kings, prophets, and even Moses!

The Talmud, however, teaches that there are 36 hidden Tzaddikim in each generation on whose merit the world continues to exist. But why must they be hidden? In modern times, the term Tzaddik seems to be used in a more general manner. Most Chassidic masters and leading Talmudic scholars are called "Tzaddik" by those who admire them.

In fact, in today's world, any simple upright, sensitive, and G-d fearing individual is thought to be a Tzaddik. However, if one might ask if there was an original Biblical and Talmudic definition for the word Tzaddik? Join Rabbi Fleer as he explores this topic as it relates to the difference between a good person and a righteous one as well as the delineation of the term Tzaddik.

This class will take place in a private home where cats and/or dogs may be present. Please email us if you have any questions related to T access or building access related to a disability.
