The Tri-Isle Prevention Network is pleased to offer this FREE event on Maui!

Come learn about the opioid issue, and what the State of Hawai'i is doing to address the issue in our islands.

Presenters:

John Callery, Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), Honolulu District Office. John has extensive experience addressing the opioid issue accross the United States and was a former high-level agent at the DEA headquarters in Alexandria, VA prior to taking his current position in the Hawai'i District Office. John currently oversees the DEA's opioid enforcement program for the State of Hawai'i.

Eddie Mersereau, Chief of the Hawai'i Department of Health, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division. Eddie has a wide array of experience in substance use treatment and prevention in both the private and government sectors. He is a current member of the Governor's Hawai'i Opioid Initiative & Statewide Response Taskforce.


Topics Covered:

John will discuss the history of opioids in the US, as well as the current state of the issue in Hawai'i. He will share the current enforcement strategies being conducted in Hawai'i and efforts being done to prevent an opioid crisis in Hawai'i.

Eddie will discuss the State's public health response to the opioid issue. He will cover the recent successes and future goals of the Statewide Response, and the plans related to the prevention and treatment of opioid misuse. He will discuss the importance of engaging the entire continuum of care in order to prevent an opioid crisis here in the islands.

There will also be time allotted for participant questions and discussion.


Target Audience:

Substance use treatment and prevention professionals, law enforcement, youth-serving organizations, mental health professionals, medical professionals, and other interested community members and stakeholders.


Continuing Education Units (CEUs):

5.5 ADAD-approved CEUs for Certified Prevention Specialist and Certified Substance Abuse Counselor certifications (pending ADAD approval).
